kyami's mami

this is about my princess and caring for her. i'm a new mom and i've loved every minute since pregnancy.
Children and Perms
I’m so against perming children’s hair. I think that most times it happens due to ignorance and lack of education. I hope that as we make progress as a society we re-think subjecting our children to such unhealthy methods. For me, the worst part of it all is sending the message that who they are born as isn’t good enough, so it has to be altered.
The reality is that it takes time to care for permed hair in the same way it takes time to care for natural hair. If parents educate themselves and start a healthy, natural care regimen for their child’s hair they all win. That naturally beautiful baby will grow up knowing s/he is beautiful. No one is subjected to such toxic chemicals that require gloves and face masks to protect the person applying it. (Did you know that there is discussion to create laws that require hair salons have completely separate spaces for harsh chemicals?)
It is up to us to show that NATURAL is BEAUTIFUL.
This article is one of the better ones I found supporting this argument. Check it out: http://www.curlynikki.com/2010/07/is-relaxing-hair-child-abuse.html
